With a quirky name which is actually evolution spelled backwards, Noitu Love and the Army of Grinning Darns is quickly gaining widespread recognition for it's classic platforming goodness. Setting a standard by winning TDC's Game of the Week award barely days after it was released, fans of classic console arcade action will not be disappointed with this effort.
Controls are stripped down to basics, featuring the standard punch and jump plus two more attack variations assigned to both the left control and shift key. Much like Capcom's Mega Man series, you get to utilize certain devices to change form and access special powers. The first few levels may seem repetitive but the game does get better after the second stage.
Most of the highlights occur during boss battles, where each leader has to be defeated using different strategies. The final boss encounter is simply amazing, even when compared to other platformers freeware or otherwise. A word of advice, you'll miss out on quite a bit if the easy difficulty setting is chosen.

I still can't get into this even though I love classic style platformers. I just find it pretty sluggish and dull. Maybe it's just slow on my computer though my machine is quite capable of playing every other platformer extremely well (such as Cave Story)
ReplyDeleteComparison to Megaman seems inapt, since the transformations are short-term and level-based, rather than item-based. It's much more like Kid Chameleon. In any event, the fighting mechanic makes it significantly less fun than either, but it's still darned (sigh) fun.
ReplyDeleteI love this game... but my save's on level 6 with no lives! I think I'll have to restart.
ReplyDeleteThis game is absolutely great; it's obvious that a lot of time and effort have gone into it (although your grammar is horrible).
