X-COM: Terror from the Deep

Two of the best turn-based strategy games involving squad and resource management, X-COM: UFO Defense and Terror from the Deep downloads have been patched to run without problems on any modern rig.

Shoot down enemy UFOs, trap your enemies and salvage their technology to improve your own. Night missions tend to be extremely suspenseful, especially when your team is whittled down to it's last few members in an area packed with aliens.

Many sleepless nights were blamed on this series. The first episode requires a little configuration since it's map scroll speed is set to maximum.

Name: X-COM: Terror from the Deep
Developer: Microprose

  1. The first X-Com was brilliant and kept me up all night many years ago and recently as I fell in love with it again. Terror From the Deep was a crappy sequel that needed some extra development or just needed to be added as an add-on to the first.

  2. I just found out that it also has some serious bugs in the research section that could prevent doing some essential researches. Seems I was lucky when I played it, since it never happened to me. Anyway, another testament to the hurry that characterized the game development. Only the graphics and sound were better (and created a great atmosphere), but there were serious balance problems. Still a good game, since it was so similar to the first episode, but it lacks its perfection. And in any case it's better than the sequels - Unfortunately, X-Com is a series that went gradually downhill after the first episode IMO.

  3. had never encountered the bug myself when i finished the game years ago, but it must be true since many had reported it. :)
