A Message from Bizarre Creations

Veck 2 gets two thumbs up from the creator(s) of Geometry Wars: Retro Evolved. Here's an excerpt from the article:

....we'd like to call out a really nice example of exactly what we were talking about.

The game in question is Veck2, a rather kick ass top down shooter. You can see it here. I love the crazy particles flowing around the screen in the background. The enemy types are interesting, and there's generally been a lot of thought put into the concept.

Our hat is off to Smayds, good job man.

  1. Oh!! The innovating people of GW:RE giving lessons of originality, again!
They're more hypocrites than the politicians.

  2. It's just a little bit precocious of the, innit?

  3. Precocious or not - it made my day. No, make that my entire year.

  4. I didn't interpret the message as "lessons in originality" -- it seemed like they were just saying they didn't want their game cloned directly, but are happy with and encourage games in the same style being made. Sounds like a reasonable request to me.

  5. More proofs they, in fact, never really played Grid Wars and just watched screenshots then ;)

  6. Haha, it is delightfully "do as we say, not as we do". :)

Tbf, the only one that they used the banhammer on *was* ostensibly identical unless you invested a bit of time in it.

  7. The evil side of me asks: "Why are they sounding like they're the absolute authority on twin-stick shooters?"

The evil side of me adds: "Maybe they're trying to get positive PR by wooing the independent development community, now that the Windows version of GW:RE is soon to be released."

  8. The windows version of GW:RE is already out - and it only runs on Vista. So nobody will get to play it. It's pretty clear that MS is the driving force behind that, which is a pity, as I've never played GW, and it's not likely I'll get a chance in the near future - because the day I downgrade my PC with Vista will be a pretty sad day indeed.

Sorry, what was the topic again? :D

  9. I'm with Smayds, I'd love to buy GW for Windoze, to give it a what for run through to see what the fuss is about, but I'm not about to shell out $399 for a Vista downgrade. And how about that after 90 days $59 a phone call technical support.

I smell A Microsoft Rat back there. BZ can't tell me that they couldn't make a version that would run on 98-XP-Vista. I'd plunk down the cash for a XP version, but like OSX too much to burn myself on Vista. Oh The Humanity. The Horror, The Horror
