onEscapee was a long lost relative of Flashback and Out of this World, until it resurfaced as freeware in 2006. Naming shenanigans aside, the game features art that, at times, spikes to beautiful, and an original world. The action sequences aren't anything groundbreaking, but the sheer amount of death animations, the exploration and puzzle elements provide enough gravitation to hold you captive. So, roll, run, shoot and think your way through this adventure with an unconventional finale.

As for anonymous, Gamershell featured the game before it went freeware. The bundled version of Starforce, 2.0, had no malicious elements. You are confusing it with it's v3.0 onwards malicious twin. And, even though said version is uninstalled together with the game, I apologise for the inconvienience, but remind you that your computer was never in any peril. And if you're still not convinced, run this official tool.
I watched the video walkthrough of this - skipping huge chunks, as the game seems to be 80% pointless filler.

Incomprehensible plot, nonsensical puzzles (a lot of them just had me wondering how anyone is meant to solve them without a walkthrough) and a bunch of deaths that make no sense whatsoever, like having a drop of blood landing on you cause a 'game over' without any explanation why.
While the art is pretty good, it just doesn't look fun to play.

ReplyDeleteI solved it without a walkthrough. It plays more like a poor man's Another World. Its graphics are clearly Flashback-inspired, though. It has its moments, but it's just poorly designed overall.
ReplyDeleteThis game is terrible. Absolutely awful. I normally don't post my disdain for games and let people make up their own minds, but seriously don't waste your time. It's full of non-sensical and unforgiving puzzles, poor controls and death at every turn.

If you are not convinced: Spoiler Alert:
The way to get past the first stage is to let yourself get hit by a floating laser chasing you. Instead of being able to run through or jump over an electic wire (which ticks off a bit of your health) you stand there and get thrown over it by the laser blast (taking lots of damage). And you have to do it twice! Then, you have to lure the laser into destroying a ship (even though you have never seen the laser interact with anything else AND your character moves like a cow in a shopping cart [thank you Yatzee]) because under that ship is a hole you can escape into. Why isn't it a manhole cover? A grating? Why isn't it anything indicating something might be underneath?
Awful, awful game. Seriously terrible. Go watch the play-through on YouTube if you don't believe me. I love Flashback and Another World, but this is just crap. Not even worth playing for free.
ReplyDeleteOh me oh my.. I tried to play this game a looong time ago already. The game was beautiful and I'm a huge Out of this World fan so of course I downloaded this.
ReplyDeleteI don't even remember why I stopped playing this but I remember it took me three days to figure out how to get through the first stage.. and then I remember dying after that. So that's probably why I stopped playing.
Edit: After watching this boring longplay walthrough it seems I've actually gone through a great deal of the beginning of the game. I got up to the 21st minute mark of the longplay walkthrough. The puzzle with the three d-pads with the stick marks on them.
Well judging from the comments I think I'll leave the game alone, but can anyone point me to a download of the wonderful music of this game? I was watching the walkthrough video, and the intro music is absolutely incredible - can I download this from somewhere, or does anyone happen to know the song title/artist?
