Top Freeware Games of 2007

Midnight Synergy (Wonderland series) has compiled a selection of 10 freeware games released in 2007, complete with proper descriptions and download links. Definitely worth a gander or two.

Meanwhile, an unofficial Grand Theft Auto IV web site had also posted a list of top 20 free games of 2007, though this article is done with poor judgment as more than half of the titles included were either released in 2006 or before that. There is also at least one game that comes with the Starforce protection - proceed with extreme caution, or avoid entirely.

  1. I'd say choosing "Yin Yang" as one of the best games of this year is also a display of poor judgement. I completed the game - but only because I want to complete all Nitrome games. At its core, "Yin Yang" is a frustrating, repetitive bore that only gets a second chance because of the admittedly cool visuals and the black/white updside/down thing.

And I haven't even started nagging about the "Was it their original idea, anyway?"-issue yet...

  2. It started with "Frost Bite", then there was "Square Meal", "Toxic", "Space Hopper", "Yin Yang", and lately "Headcase", "Pest Control" and "Twang". Well, I guess that's still far from "all their games", but I'm still at it. I also posted a couple of walkthroughs for some levels on jayisgames.com.

The ones I didn't complete so far either have mouse control, which I don't like in Nitrome games; or they felt tedious during the first level already...

  4. Hey, thanks for the comments so far - I'm definitely interested in knowing which games should and shouldn't have made the list in other's opinions.

I did think Yin Yang was troubled - e.g. the control is far too tedious (switching characters takes much longer than it should). But the central hook of the black/white world really made the game worth a look, so it made the list.
