FLYWRENCH has been released. It is this game, for those who remember the video but not the name.

The arrows are the only controls, and depending on which you press, your color changes: up flaps you up and turns you red, left and right move left and right and turn you white, and down rolls (protecting you from the walls) and turns you green.

The main goal is to get between two points in a series of stages, with increasingly complex obstacles in your way: the trick is that you can move through an obstacle if you are the same color as it. The level design is probably the best part of the game, I had a lot of fun with it. I also liked the movement system, where you have to flap to keep you aloft; it's a rare movement system that I can only remember being used previously in the Atari 2600 game Fathom.

"The arrows are the only controls..."

you can also rock this funness with WASD (helpful for all of the console trained players like myself).

Ah, I forgot about Joust, that's a good comparison too. I haven't tried FlapFlapFlap though.

Blazed through it in 18 minutes, 9 seconds. I'm assuming that's a better-than-average time, as I did a whole lot of the earlier stages without dying once, and it only got really hairy for me on the final two gates.

Interesting little game, though. Kinda dissapointed with the ending, though - not nearly as mysterious as the text leading up to it made out.

Love it. The camera lurches around a bit, which was a little bothersome, but otherwise pure fun.

Well dang, I wanted to write the review for this. No worries, though, as it's nice to see what you had to say about your game, messhof. Keep making these, you have a real gift for control systems that keep the player just barely in control, without ever actually losing it. A rare talent.

I sent Tim an email about the game, but I think Paul wrote the review above. I like the game too, though!

Stupidest game of 2007, Flywrench gets my vote.

Oops, I see it now. I saw your name as the only tag and my brain said "Aha! The author!". My bad.

Wouldn't mind hearing what you had to say about it, though :).

I am a complete fool at this game. I find it INCREDIBLY difficult.

Awesome game though - so pure!

As much as I appreciate the concept and the apparent humor in the game I don't like it.

The "music" is extremely annoying and the flight physics just don't seem right. I can't quite put my finger on what's wrong with them but I think that it's too hard to deaccelerate but once you do you get a very strange quick boost upwards...

looks like JOUST ou PEGASUS THE FANTOM RYDERS, anyways will give a try right away...

My score was 0:09:28 btw. D: >:D

I agree about the upward acceleration being too fast (he should have put a cap on total speed) and the music being annoying, but those are tiny issues to me, the rest of the game can easily be enjoyed despite those.

The music is phenomenal and I don't know how anyone can dislike it.

I love these games with a deep gameplay and only 4 buttons ! Great job, Messhof.

For no particular reason other than a bit of annoyance at the difficulty of this game, and because I actually like "flap" mechanics (see: Joust, and Balloon Flight), I made a parody mashup of this game: FlyWrench meets my own Atari 2600 JoustPong in the thrill-a-minute world of: flywrenchpong.
(You can also play it online).

It also features a homemade electronic soundtrack! (Made by slowing down and "wa-wa'ing" an Atari 2600 Supercharger .wav)

I absolutely love this game.
